The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
