Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
